Merry Christmas to you all too!

We had a very busy end to the term too. It was a shorter term because of the rugby world cup, but we still had the same amount of work to do. We won't be back until 30th January (with a new class). If you want to start writing when you get back I can reply until we start back
The predicted temperature for Christmas day is 23c. We have had an incredible spring and there is long grass everywhere. Around my home there is hay being cut and baled. I have had my forst tomatoes from the glass house.
Good luck to the teachers for the volleyball match!

We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
We're going to write next year, we'll be back on 9th January.

Christmas-Cassie

Hi I'm Cassie and this is what I do for Christmas.... Well for starters i spend the morning I am with my mum (Kirsten) and we are going to open the presents that Santa has left for us and we check to see if the reindeer have eaten there food we leave out for them and we give Rudolph the biggest and the fattest treat and he eats it all up and we also give him his own water bowl with water in it.When we have opened our presents we have to put them in our mums room or in our room then we get our own Christmas brunch (and a brunch is a breakfast that you have at lunch time) and we have hash browns ,eggs, bacon, toast, sausages and juice as our drink. After that we have our Christmas party at dads (Dean) and he has a pool so we can swim in the nice cool water and it is all ways so nice and cold and very relaxing but first we open our presents from nanny and our other family who live in Carterton (this a town near us) and we get lots of cool things from them (i know what nanny is getting me) we all ways have so much fun at Christmas and my really funny cousin and me play tag under water and hide and go seek and with my seal sticks we can drop them and we go and find them under the water. If we are lucky we go to the grave yard and put flowers by him (he died before my sister was born). We put fake flowers by him because if they were real they would die really fast.I really miss him but at Christmas we barely even remember him because we are having to much fun. When we are giving out the presents dad puts on a Santa hat and says some ones name and he says who it is from as well of cause he does. Then we all hop in the pool for a good old swim to cool down from opening so many presents. We have 2 museums in our town. What sort of Christmas food do you have on Christmas day? we eat Christmas cake it is so good with lots of fruit like raisins ,sultanas and lots more it is really yummy. We have so much fun at Christmas time it is the best time to spend with your family.Do have fun with your family on Christmas? How do you dress up your trees?Do you have a ball that has your name on them and it has the date you got it on it?How many people come around on Christmas at your house?Do you have little chocolate truffles that you guys eat on Christmas? If you do eat them do they have marshmallow in the middle? (this message is from every one in Kauri) Hope you have a good Christmas.Do you sing Christmas songs? Have fun over your 2 weeks holiday. This is our last week at school then we get to have a long holiday

Hello,
thank for the pictures. They are very nice. They're beatiful places. We would like to go on school camps, but we never go. This year we will go on a school trip, but we don't know where.
Last year we visited some museums in Turin and they were very interesting.
Are there any museums in your town?
S
It's going to be Christmas soon and we'll stay at home for two weeks. It's a very nice festivity in our country. Families stay together and eat a lot of good things. We make the Christmas Tree and decorate our houses in different ways. We also make a Crib in our houses. How do you celebrate Christmas? What do you do? What do you eat?
We eat a lot of things especially a typical cake called "panettone", it's very good.
Hope hearing from you soon

presentation

Hello,
we're 3F of "Dante Alighieri" School in Turin. Turin is a big industrial city in the north-west of Italy. There are a lot of monuments and the symbol of the city is the "Mole Antonelliana" the highest monument.
At School we study a lot of subject such as Italian, maths, science, history, English, French, P.E, T.E., Geography, Art, Music, Religion.
We start school at 8 o'clock and lessons finish at one o'clock on Mondays and Fridays. On Tuesdays and Thursdays school finishes at 4 o'clock p.m.. On Wednesdays it finishes at 2 o' clock p.m..We play baseball, basket, hitball and volleyball. We are quite good at sports. What time does school start and finish? Which subjects do you study at school? Do you study any foreign language?Do you eat in the school canteen? Is the food good? In Italy we sometimes eat in the canteen, but the food is not very good. Italian children don't like vegetables and fruit very much. And you?
In Italy it's autumn at the moment and the weather is very foggy and cold. What's the weather like in your country?
What about food? What do you eat? What's your favourite food? What's your typical dish?
In our free time we like listening to music, playing football, meeting friends, surfing the net, and so on. What about you? What kind of music do you listen to? Do you know any Italian singer?
What's the name of the city where you live? Are there any famous monuments? Are there any foreign people in your class?
write soon
Bye bye 3F

hi

We're not at school today because bad weather caused damages in some parts of Northern Italy, in particular in Liguria, a region near Piedmont. Some people died because of floods. In Turin too we had problems because the river Po has overflowed the banks yesterday. Luckily everything is ok, but school are closed as precaution.
We hope we can write next week.
Bye Laura

Thursday, November 3, 2011

Hello

We really liked watching your photos. We know it's strange for you. In Turin every winter is like that. Now it's getting quite cold, days are shorter and it's often cloudy.
Yesterday we tried writing but we had problems. Luckiky today everything is ok.
My 3F this year is a good class and they're looking forward to writing to you next week.
We don't have much rugby year; people don't follow this sport. Soccer is the main sport followed by tennis.
Bye
Laura

Easter

Ciao,
we celebrate quite in the same way, the only difference is the cake we eat on Sunday, after the lunch with the family. We eat chocolate eggs and a cake which has the shape of a dove, made of flour, eggs, almonds and sultana. Nowadays some cakes have chocolate a cream inside. Delicious!!!
It's a period of Joy because we celebrate Christ's resurrection after death. There are a lot of celebrations at church beginning on Friday afternoon.
Have a happy Easter, we'll be back soon

Easter

Ciao
You may already be on holiday.
We do celebrate Easter. Friday is called Good Friday. We have hot cross buns (a spicy bun with a cross on the top) these represent the death of Jesus on the cross. On Sunday we have chocolate Easter eggs. These represent the resurrection and the eggs mean new life. How do you celebrate Easter. Have a great Easter and enjoy your holiday.
Mr H
We really liked your video, thank you so much. We didn't go on a school trip this year, so we enjoyed looking at you.Tomorrow is our last day before Easter holiday and then we'll have only about a month of school. Holidays

Hi Guys
The year 6 students had an awesome camp last week, the weather was great and we had lots of fun. We are on holiday until the 2nd of May. When do you have holidays? How long do you have? We made a short video about some of the things that we enjoyed at camp. We have had a cold, wet day today, around 10 c and very windy. I think it was coming straight from the south pole. It has been mild up till now so this was a shock. (unfortunately the winter is just beginning)

The Slit is a gap between the rocks where you have to walk through, (like  a narrow cave) it is dark and the water is up to your knees.
Secret buddies are when we all draw out a name and we have to do nice things for them, it's a secret until the end of the day.
We also used inches and feet in New Zealand. We changed to the metric system in 1967. We changed money to dollars and cents (it used to be pounds, shillings and pence) and all the measurements, including inches, feet, yards and miles to millimetres, centimetre, metres and kilometres
Bye for now

Hi Kauri's class!

At the end of this year we are having a very difficult exam and next year we will change school.

Have you ever had an exam ? We haven't got "Pizza Hut" but there are a lot of Pizzerias in our city. Have you got any Pubs ? Do you use any social network like Facebook, Netlog, Twitter etc...?

Last week we went to visit our city with an english guide. We started from "PORTA NUOVA Station" and the "Sambuy Gardens" in front of it. Then we walked along "Via Roma" and looking for english words in the windows shops. We went to see the underground car parks and the guide described the signs we saw there. We visited two famous squares : Castello square and San Carlo square. We visited the Subalpine Gallery and the Carignano Palace and we learnt a lot of new words. We took some photos and we enjoyed a lot. Then we took the bus and we came back to school.

We learnt some strange things for example that there are three cannon balls on the building in San Carlo square and there is also one near a church.

We learnt english measurement : INCH and FOOT and there are some Roman walls underground.

The whole school travelled to the town pools to race and the top children were selected to go to the inter-school swimming sports next week. Today we had a red and black day, we got to wear red and black clothes and brought a donation. The proceeds are going to help the earthquake victims. We also had a cake stall.
The red and black day was held all over New Zealand. Red and black are the colours of Canterbury, the region where Christchurch is.

We saw the photos about the earthquake and we are very sorry for what happened.
Two years ago in the centre of Italy , a region called Abruzzo happened something like this.
A lot of cities and villages were destroyed and more then 3 hundred people died.

We live in the north west of Italy in a region called Piedmont.
You can look at the map.

This year we are celebrating the 150 years of the Union of Italy.
In this days we are celebrating Carnival , people dress up in different ways and there are a lot of parades in the street.
Children have parties with their friends. Do you celebrate Carnival too?
What do you do?

Earthquake

Thank you for the photos, we have also seen some of the photos in the gallery on your website. Another devastating earthquake struck Christchurch yesterday. Although it was a smaller magnitude there was more damage and loss of life. It was shallower and closer to the city centre. Many of us at school either have friends or relatives who live in Christchurch, as far as I know all are safe and well. Here is a link to see some of the pictures from the earthquake. http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/photos/4688271/Christchurch-aftershock-Feb-22

Hi to everybody. We're happy to wtrte to you on the blog.
We answer some of your questions. we don't have a pool at our school also bacause it's cold in Turin. During the summer we're not at school. We're on holiday from mid-june to mid September.
We don't have a mascot and we don't have lunch outside, but in a certain lunch room.
We have a courtyard, but we only go there to play during the lunch break. We don't have any pets. We live in a big industrial and polluted city, we don't have butterflies and caterpillars. We don't do gardening, we don't have fields nearby.
The weather here is cold even if it's getting warmer. We're waiting for spring.
We're studying hard this here because we're attending the third and last year of secondary school and we're going to have an exam in june. In september we will change school and classmates because each of us will choose a different type of school.
We must stop now.
Bye 3F
